SB 9" lifting clamp hole spacing

I have to make a lifting clamp like the one linked below. Only problem is the lathe is in my brothers house, my tools are here. So I would like to make this before I get up there. My question is how far apart do the outer bolts have to be to clear the bed and not hit the leadscrew etc. Does 6+1/4 inch sound correct? I realize center to center spacing must account for bolt diameter. I will sandwich some 1x4 wood in the package to protect the ways and bottom of the bed. I plan to use this later for lifting a 14x40 lathe so will be using 3/4" all-thread, which should be plenty strong enough for a SB 9.

I use a single piece of 1 1/4 inch all thread with an eye welded on the end, through the bed. I sandwich the bed between wood on the top and steel on the bottom. Works on everything and if you put the eye high above the bed, even top-heavy machines are stable.
